Submitting Assignment Online

My favorite English teacher could draw humor out of the driest material. It wasn’t forced on us either. He took Samuel Johnson’s dictionary, Addison’s essays, and many other literary wonders from the eighteenth century and made them hilarious, even at eight o’clock in the morning. The thing that amazed me most was that the first time I read these works on my own some of them seemed dead, but the second time, after his explanation, I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t seen the humor. Does money buy happiness? Not! Ah, but would a little more money make us a little happier? Many of us smirk(傻笑，假笑) and nod. There is, we believe, some connection between financial fitness and emotional fulfillment. Science Fiction
The science fiction type of entertainment is considered by most to be fathered by Jules Verne (A Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea) and H. G. Wells (The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds). Sci-Fi, as it is commonly shortened, is a fictional story in which science and technology have a significant influence on the characters and plot. Many such works are guesswork about what the future holds and how scientific findings and technological advances will shape humankind.
Writing in the late 1800s, Jules Verne was remarkably successful in his 10 guesses about future technologies of air conditioning, automobiles, the Internet, television, and underwater, air, and space travel. Unbelievably, of all places from which to choose, Jules Verne guessed Tampa, Florida, USA as the launching site of the first project to the Moon, which was only 200 kilometers away from the actual 1969 location at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
One of the best-known science fiction books is Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. Published in 1949, it was not meant as a prediction, but as a warning: Orwell was describing what he saw as the outcome of the ideas, trends, and emerging technologies of his time. Many invented terms from this novel have become common in everyday use, such as “big brother” and “doublethink”. I think the picture tries to tell us that we should set a proper goal for ourselves. If we ignore the readily attainable goals and choose one beyond our reach, we may fall and end up with nothing. In our daily life, there are many such “l(fā)ittle girls”, who only aim at what is up high. Sometimes, they even take risks in getting the apple, the result of which is most probably only a fall. Actually, if we set a more realistic goal, we will not only get big apples, but also achieve confidence and happiness.

W: I’ve been here about three weeks now. So, what’s your major, Sam?
M: I’m studying medicine now. What’s yours?

W: Actually no, I have a small apartment about five blocks from here. Well, I have to run. Thanks for your help. Maybe we’ll run into each other again sometime.

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to our sports center. Here, between nine o’clock in the morning and nine o’clock in the evening, you can enjoy a number of different sporting activities. The outdoor tennis courts are open all day, and the running track is used for various forms of athletics, also all day. Most visitors, of course, come to use our Olympic-sized swimming pool. The hours for swimming are nine o’clock to half past eleven in the morning and two to nine pm. You can also play basketball in the gym between one and five, or do fitness training in the evening between five o’clock and half past seven.
The café is open all day for snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Finally, we have a shop that sells books and sports equipment. The opening hours are nine to five, but it closes for lunch between twelve and one.

W: And have you ever been to our Regal Bookstore?
M: Yes, I bought something there only two weeks ago. It was the new book by Grisham. I saw that it was on special offer so I came in.
